How to Play
1. Spend Your Budget
You have £1,200,000 to spend. Each athlete has a price based on their previous season performance, the better the runner, the higher the price.
2. Pick Your Team
Choose up to 30 athletes, a mix of men and women. We recommend at least 10 men and 5 ladies to fill your scoring slots each match.
3. Score Points
Each match, your best 10 men and 5 ladies score their D1 finishing position. Positions beyond 150th, and athletes who didn't run, score 150 each.
4. Lowest Wins
Unlike most games, low is good. The manager with the lowest total score across all 4 matches wins the League Champion trophy.
Match Scoring
Step by step, for each match:
- You always have exactly 10 men's scoring slots and 5 ladies' scoring slots per match.
-
Give every man in your team a score for that match:
- Ran D1, finished at position X (≤ 150) → scores X
- Ran D1, finished beyond 150th → scores 150 (capped)
- Did not run in D1 → scores 150
- Sort all your men by their score (lowest = best) and fill the top 10 slots. If your team has fewer than 10 men, the remaining slots are also filled at 150 each. Best possible men's total = 55 (1+2+…+10).
- Add those 10 scores → men's match score.
- Repeat for ladies using the top 5 slots. Best possible ladies' total = 15 (1+2+3+4+5).
- Men's score + Ladies' score = your match score.
- Add your 4 match scores → your season total. Lowest total wins the League Champion trophy.
Example Match Score
Say you have 15 men in your team, and 8 of them ran in Match 1. You always fill all 10 scoring slots:
| Slot | Athlete | Finishing Position | Points Scored |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Your best man | 3rd | 3 |
| 2 | Second best | 15th | 15 |
| 3 | Third best | 42nd | 42 |
| 4 | Fourth | 78th | 78 |
| 5 | Fifth | 101st | 101 |
| 6 | Sixth | 130th | 130 |
| 7 | Seventh | 155th | 150 (capped) |
| 8 | Eighth | 200th | 150 (capped) |
| 9 | Didn't run | 150 | |
| 10 | Didn't run | 150 | |
| Men's Match Score | 969 | ||
3+15+42+78+101+130+150+150+150+150 = 969. Add the ladies' top-5 score to get the full match score.
Athlete Pricing
Each athlete's price is calculated from their average finishing position across all Surrey League matches they ran last season:
| Average position | Price (D1 athlete) | Price (D2 promoted) |
|---|---|---|
| 1st (best) | £100,000 | £90,000 |
| 30th | ≈ £65,000 | ≈ £55,000 |
| 75th | £10,000 | £0 |
| 150th | ≈ £8,000 | ≈ £0 |
| 300th or slower | £5,000 | £0 |
- Positions 1–75: linear scale from £100,000 down to £10,000.
- Positions 75–300: linear scale from £10,000 down to £5,000.
- Position 300 or slower: flat £5,000.
- D2-promoted athletes (ran Division 2 last season, club now in D1) get a £10,000 discount.
- All prices are rounded to the nearest £1,000.
- New athletes with no Surrey League history are priced at a flat £75,000. You can add these manually in the Team Builder.
Trophies
League Champion
Awarded to the manager with the lowest season total score across all four matches. This is the main prize.
Match Champion
Awarded to the manager with the lowest score in a single match. One per match, so up to four different people could win this.
All I See Is Gold
Awarded if a manager had both the #1 finishing man AND the #1 finishing lady in their team for the same match. Extremely rare.
Other Rules
- Each athlete can only be picked once per team.
- Only Division 1 finishing positions count for scoring. Athletes who ran in D2 last season (promoted clubs) have no D1 history, they are shown as D2↑ in the team builder and will score in D1 from this season.
- Athletes who did not run in D1 for a given match score 150 and still fill one of your scoring slots.
- Prices and seedings are fixed before the season starts, you cannot change them.
- Sign in with Google or an email address. Your team is saved to your account, and only you can change it.
